The declaration was made on Wednesday during an engagement with members of Caucus 7202, a political support structure for the senator, where traders commended Adeola for what they described as his visible developmental projects across Ogun Central while appealing for greater intervention in their community.
Speaking on behalf of the plank sellers, the association’s chairman Rasheed Bello praised the senator’s record, particularly his installation of solar-powered streetlights across several communities.
He said the projects had convinced members that Adeola possesses the capacity to deliver more if elected governor.
“If we look at it closely, it is not just our neighbourhood. I can see that about 90 per cent of the solar streetlights in Ogun Central, which is not even his senatorial district, are the work of Senator Yayi. We are grateful. This is enough proof that if Senator Olamilekan Adeola becomes governor, many of our problems will be solved.”
The chairman, however, appealed for greater attention to Sawmill and Odo-Eran, lamenting the poor state of roads, recurring flooding and the absence of basic infrastructure despite the strategic importance of the market, which attracts traders from several local government areas across Ogun Central.
He disclosed that members recently spent over ₦1.4 million hiring heavy equipment to control flooding around the market and said the association had also been funding palliative repairs on the road by purchasing and dumping stones.
“We are begging our senator to come to our aid. We know what he has done elsewhere, and we believe this is a small task compared to what he is capable of doing. We also want empowerment for our women and traders because whatever support reaches us will strengthen our commitment to mobilise votes for Yayi in 2027.”
The traders reaffirmed their loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that previous APC administrations had supported the association through empowerment initiatives. They urged the senator to ensure their members also benefit from future empowerment programmes and infrastructure projects.
“We have been working with Caucus 7202 for about two or three years. Whenever our leader calls us, we honour the invitation. We encouraged our members to register, collect their PVCs and keep them safely because they will be needed during the election.”
Ajibola appealed to Senator Adeola to extend more developmental projects to Sawmill, including solar streetlights, road rehabilitation, empowerment programmes and transportation support for the association.
“We need streetlights, smooth roads and empowerment for our people.We also need a vehicle for our association so we can continue to support our leader wherever he goes.”
“Our mission here today is to sensitise members that their voter’s card is very important. They must keep it safe, ensure it is not damaged, and come out en masse on election day to vote for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the next Governor of Ogun State.”
On the association’s requests for improved infrastructure, Adebayo assured members that their concerns would be communicated to the senator, expressing confidence that the issues would receive prompt attention.
“They requested durable roads and solutions to the persistent flooding in this area. We will relay these requests to our principal. Considering Senator Adeola’s record of executing projects, this is a simple matter for him, and we are confident it will receive attention.”
He also assured the traders that they remained part of the senator’s empowerment network.
“The women and traders are already within our empowerment structure. They are one of our major organic support groups, and we value them greatly. Their request is simply for broader participation, and that is something we have taken note of”.
