Oba Adediran made the call during the Ogun State Police Command Stakeholders’ Engagement summit for security expert held at Eleweran Abeokuta on Thursday.
Session with the Coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-West Geopolitical Zone, DIG Fayoade Mustapha Adegoke.
The monarch, who represented the Olowu of Owu, Oba Saka Adelola Matemilola, said the engagement provided an opportunity for stakeholders to interact with the police leadership on practical steps towards improving security.
According to the royal father, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police commended all stakeholders for the impressive turnout at the session and stressed the need for sustained collaboration between the public and security agencies.
He said the DIG particularly appreciated the role of credible intelligence in crime prevention and assured participants that the police would continue to protect the identity and safety of anyone who provides useful information.
“Support the police at this time to confront the present security challenges. The Deputy Inspector-General appreciated the importance of credible intelligence and encouraged everyone to always inform the police whenever they notice anything suspicious. He assured us that the police are ready to guarantee the security of those who provide information,” Oba Adediran said.
The Towulade also used the occasion to encourage parents and community leaders to motivate young people to consider careers in the Nigerian Police Force and the military, describing the security sector as a viable path for career growth and national service.
He noted that there are numerous opportunities within the armed forces and police for youths to build meaningful careers while contributing to the safety of society.
“I encouraged all stakeholders to motivate children to join the Nigerian Police and the military. There are a lot of opportunities there for them to build their careers, and I also urged everyone to support not only their own children but other people’s children as well,” the monarch added.
Oba Adediran further lauded Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his interventions in the areas of technical education and security architecture, especially the establishment of joint police task force operations across the state.
He said the governor’s efforts have contributed significantly to strengthening security and creating opportunities for young people through improved technical education.
The monarch also revealed that security concerns had featured prominently at a recent summit convened at Ake palace by the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, who is also the President of the Egba Traditional Council.
According to him, the summit, held at the Ake Palace about two weeks ago, brought together stakeholders and security experts from across Ogun State to deliberate on strategies for addressing insecurity.
He explained that at the summit, the Alake urged traditional rulers to return to their various domains and engage community stakeholders in discussions aimed at tightening security in their respective areas.
