Ambassador Whyte made this call while featuring on a political programme on Family FM, Abeokuta on Tuesday where he expressed concern over the increasing rate at which politicians switch political parties without restraint.
Speaking during the programme , Ambassador Whyte stressed the need for legislative action to instill discipline and stability in Nigeria’s political system.
He proposed that defections by public office holders should only be allowed within a legally defined period , preferably about two months before the end of their tenure to ensure accountability and respect for party ideologies.
According to him, “There should be a law that guides political defections to prevent instability and ensure that politicians stay true to the platforms through which they were elected. This will promote party discipline and protect the integrity of our democratic process.”
Ambassador Whyte also urged young Nigerians to remain politically conscious and actively involved in shaping the nation’s democratic future.
He expressed optimism that, with increasing youth participation and visionary leadership, Ogun State could someday produce a young person as Governor.
He commended the Ogun State Governor for his youth-oriented policies and inclusiveness in governance, describing it as a motivation for young people to aspire toward leadership positions.
