Speaking at the event, Elemide lauded Tella for what he described as an unprecedented intervention, noting that the lawmaker had constructed 16 boreholes across the 16 wards of the constituency.
“Water is life, and Tella has given water where there was none. In doing so, he has given life. All the areas we visited are deep inside communities, where this water is needed the most. That’s something we should appreciate, and I’m proud of him,” Elemide said.
He commended Tella’s contributions in the House, describing him as “Baba Oniwe” for his numerous motions and bills. He also urged residents to take ownership of the project , as government would not be responsible for their maintenance.
While speaking with newsmen, Hon. Babatunde Tella explained that the borehole initiative was informed by residents’ demands, especially after road construction in the last administration destroyed many water pipes.
“Even though I’m currently constructing 16 boreholes, five more communities have already made requests. I don’t know how many we’ll complete before my tenure ends. The one commissioned today has been handed over to the communities for management and upkeep,” he said.
The lawmaker recalled his previous empowerment programmes, which have included the distribution of sewing machines, grinding machines, fertilizers, knapsack sprayers, herbicides, mathematics dictionaries, exercise books, solar lights, and cash support to constituents.
He also noted that, with the governor’s support, a member of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the constituency had embarked on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem this year.
Also Speaking, the APC Chairman in Abeokuta North Local Government, Alhaja Faidat Sarumi Akintunde, commended Tella for addressing the water needs of residents, stressing that “water has no enemy” and urged the community to ensure proper maintenance of the project.
Similarly, the Leader of the House in Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Moruf Erubami, appreciated Tella for the gesture and reiterated the need for residents to safeguard the project.
