Speaking during the celebration on Wednesday, Ifa priest Ayedun Ifadare popularly known as Agbotifayo Empire expressed gratitude on behalf of the traditionalists, noting that the governor’s gesture for the past two years has further strengthened cultural preservation in the state.
“We appreciate Governor Dapo Abiodun for giving us the holiday to celebrate Isese Day. For the past two years now, we have been really happy with that. We thank God that the prayers of our forefathers have been answered,” he said.
Agbotifayo added that Isese Day is not only a local affair but one that is observed globally. He emphasized the importance of cultural and ancestral worship, urging people not to abandon their roots.
“Some of us have gods that our lineages worship. We are black people, and those who run away from Isese are running away from our values and culture,” he noted.
Agbotifayo stressed their commitment to unity and accountability within their fold, affirming that they regularly hold meetings across Ogun State and beyond to maintain discipline and authenticity in the practice of the religion.
“If you see a truthful babalawo, you will recognize them. For those doing wrong, we know how to fish them out and correct them,” he said.
They therefore appealed to government at all levels for greater support and recognition, saying such cooperation would empower them to play stronger roles in promoting societal values and harmony.
