El-Rufai on Saturday in Sokoto State, while addressing supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of a grassroots mobilisation tour in the North-West, was reported to have urged Nigerians not to vote for the APC in the 2027 presidential election.
He also warned that another term under President Tinubu would further jeopardize Nigeria’s fragile national unity.
Reacting to the former governor's comments, however, YYC, on Monday, in a statement signed by its Convener, Dapo Fasola, accused El-Rufai of fanning the ember of disunity among Nigerians, declaring that his antagonization of the administration of President Tinubu is an effort in futility.
Fasola who said that the former governor has always been known for his trade of politics of mischief, observed that his early campaign for the 2027 poll in 2025 is just to crave for a media attention.
The YYC Convener stated further that El-Rufai was merely seeking political relevance because he fell out with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State and at the national level, urging Nigerians to shun the antics of the former governor.
Defending the administration of President Tinubu, the group said Nigeria is doing better under the incumbent administration, particularly in the area of economy, security, infrastructural development, health and agriculture.
YYC added that since 2023 when President Tinubu took over the mantle of leadership in the country, his administration has espoused various policies that have begun to yield positive results.
It stated further that President Tinubu-led administration has also ensured that all parts of the country have been captured in its Renewed Hope Agenda, expressing confidence that Nigerians will reelect Tinubu in 2027.
YYC, however, cautioned El-Rufai to desist from his campaign of calumny against the president, urging him to engage in profitable activities rather than chasing shadows.
"YYC views the recent utterances of the former governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as baseless and unfair. Every Nigerian knows that the incumbent president is working assiduously to revamp the country which was pulverized by El-Rufai and his cohorts.
"The former governor has always been known for his stock-in-trade, hence, Nigerians must ignore him and his politics of mischief. President Tinubu has moved Nigeria forward from where people like El-Rufai abandoned it. Nigerians are not fools and they cannot be hoodwinked or deceived by baseless and unfounded criticisms.
"YYC, though a pan-Yoruba socio-political group, will not work to
promote ethnic hegemony at the expense of national unity, therefore, we urge the former governor to desist from fanning the ember of disunity because of politics.
"While reiterating our support for the President Tinubu-led administration, we urge Nigerians to shun El-Rufai and his co-travellers, and continue to support the incumbent administration. The president and his team have worked tirelessly to fix the nation and positive results of the efforts are visible in the economy, security, infrastructural development, agriculture, health, education, youth empowerment and foreign affairs.
"The YYC, however, will continue to mobilize massive grassroots and national support for President Tinubu, to ensure that Nigerians continue to enjoy good governance as well as the goodies of democracy", the state submitted.
