Speaking with newsmen after watching the Swimming competition, at MKO Abiola Sport Arena on Wednesday, the state chairman of ACOMORAN, Comrade Kayode Showunmi, described the governor’s investments in sports infrastructure as a “bold and strategic move” that will not only boost the state’s reputation but also open up economic opportunities for local businesses and residents.
Showunmi noted that the hosting of the 2024 National Sports Festival in Ogun State presents a golden opportunity to showcase the state’s potential, hospitality, and infrastructure to the rest of the country.
He stated that the massive upgrade of stadiums and sports facilities across the state is already attracting attention from across the federation.
“We are particularly proud of the steps taken by His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to ensure that Ogun State delivers a world-class sports festival.
“The quality of the facilities being put in place is commendable. As stakeholders in the local economy, we see the ripple effect it is already creating,” Showunmi said.
The ACOMORAN chairman emphasized that the transportation sector, especially commercial motorcyclists, will benefit greatly from the influx of visitors and increased commercial activity during the festival.
He pledged the cooperation of the association to maintain order and ensure safe transportation across designated areas during the event.
He also called on members of the public to support the state government’s vision for sports development, stressing that youth engagement through sports can serve as a tool for curbing social vices and promoting peace in the state.
Showunmi further lauded Governor Abiodun for giving attention to grassroots sports development and for supporting local talents.
He expressed optimism that Ogun State athletes will perform impressively at the festival due to the conducive environment being created for training and development.
He urged other associations and community stakeholders to key into the ongoing transformation and support initiatives that promote unity, youth empowerment, and development through sports.
