The Chief of Staff to the Ogun State Governor, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo, on Thursday decorated as the Pillar of Good Governance by the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to governance, transparency, and accountability in the state.
The event, which took place at the NUJ Secretariat, Iwe Iroyin, Abeokuta was attended by top government officials, journalists, and dignitaries from various sectors.
The Chairman of Ogun NUJ, Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju, in his address, lauded Dr. Taiwo’s commitment to good governance, describing him as a leader whose dedication to the people of Ogun State has set a standard for public service.
“As we unite to formally inaugurate Dr. Taiwo as the Pillar of Good Governance and to acknowledge her unwavering support for the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), let us take a moment to reflect on the values that guide us: integrity, transparency, and service to the people.
“Dr. Taiwo embodies these ideals. His commitment to enhancing the quality of governance in Ogun State is nothing short of inspiring. He has consistently demonstrated that effective leadership is rooted in compassion and dedication to the citizens. Through his efforts, he has not only uplifted the voice of the people but has also established a framework for accountability and progress that will benefit generations to come” he stated.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Taiwo expressed deep appreciation to the NUJ for the honor, emphasizing the critical role of the media in governance.
Dr Taiwo represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development in Ogun state Hon Wasiu Isiaka reiterated his commitment to fostering a government that prioritizes the welfare of the people and maintains an open relationship with journalists to promote accountability.
“I make bold to say that this award celebrates more than an individual—it highlights the critical role the media plays in our democracy. Journalism is not just a profession; it is the bedrock of accountability and transparency in governance. As Walter Cronkite once said, “Freedom of the press is not just important to democracy, it is democracy.
“This administration remains open to all genuine partnerships—with professionals, individuals, and corporate organizations—sharing ideas and innovations that will propel our dear state to greater heights.
“Together, we will continue to drive the successful implementation of the “Building Our Future Together” agenda of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration.”
In his goodwill message, the Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya highlighted Dr. Taiwo’s exceptional leadership qualities and his valuable contributions to the state’s development.
His words” this recognition coming from the media — the watchdog of the society — speaks volumes about Dr. Taiwo’s significant role and credibility in the governance structure in Ogun State.
“The media, as the mirror of society, does not bestow accolades lightly; rather, it recognizes those who have genuinely distinguished themselves through their actions and impact.
“That this honour is conferred upon Dr. Taiwo is, therefore, a proof to his dedication to good governance, strategic leadership and quality support to the visionary Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun,
CON, in delivering the ‘Building Our Future Together’ Agenda.
“Dr. Taiwo’s leadership and administrative acumen have been evident in his various roles within the Ogun State Government, including his tenure as Commissioner for Culture and Tourism and later as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor.
“His elevation to the position of Chief of Staff has only reinforced his reputation as a diligent, strategic and highly competent public servant.
“This award serves as further encouragement to continue to contribute his wealth of experience to the advancement of governance in Ogun State.

In a show of appreciation, Comrade Olanrewaju thanked the Ogun State Government for its support of the NUJ, particularly acknowledging Governor Abiodun and the Secretary to the State Government for their role in securing Hajj slots for journalists.
He also expressed gratitude for the appointment of the Onilisa of Lisa, Oba Najeemdeen Odugbemi, and reminded the governor of the NUJ’s request for a new Secretariat and event centre.
