Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo, revealed this while playing host to delegates from Ekiti and Delta States, who came to understudy Ogun on its successful implementation of NFWP, identifying effective coordination with development partners, stringent participant selection criteria, and establishment of a self-sustaining project structure as factors that made the state to succeed.
Mr. Okubadejo, said the state was strategic in implementing programmes that had direct impact on women such as Oko’wo Dapo project, designed to economically empower women in Micro, Small, and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs), noting that they are the largest employers of labour and significant contributors to the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with their benefits largely retained locally.
"Ogun State has not only met but exceeded all targets set by the World Bank. I believe that integrity, professionalism and efficiency are essential principles for achieving such a significant feat. More importantly, you need to appoint dedicated and passionate supervisors who will properly monitor and ensure that people and resource as well as project are well managed for the success of the project", he said.
In her remarks, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, commended Ogun's exceptional performance among the six pilot states for the NFWP, saying the achievements had made World Bank to select Ogun as a training hub for new participants.
Responding on behalf of the delegations, Permanent Secretaries from the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Ekiti State, Mrs. Omotayo Olatido, and her counterpart from Delta State, Mrs. Agas Oghenekevwe, lauded Prince Dapo Abiodun's leadership, expressing delight for availing them the opportunity to learn from Ogun's experience.
They pledged to apply knowledge gained in achieving similar success in their respective states.
