Ogun Govt. Commences Evacuation, Rehabilitation Of Destitutes

In a bid to address the growing concern of destitutes with mental disorders posing a threat to public safety and environmental hygiene, the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has embarked on a comprehensive evacuation and rehabilitation.

Hon. Adijat Adeleye, Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, while speaking to newsmen disclosed that the exercise aimed towards sanitizing the environment and ensuring security of residents.

She emphasized the necessity for prompt intervention to mitigate the risks posed by these individuals to society.

She stated that the rehabilitation department of the Ministry had been to the 20 Local Government Areas of the state, to ensure that streets were rid of vagrants for safety of others.

Adeleye urged citizens to prioritize their social and mental health while refraining from behaviors that could lead to mental disorders, such as substance abuse. 

She assured the public of the government's unwavering dedication to safeguarding the welfare of its citizens.

The commissioner added that they would be properly rehabilitated and be united with their families after receiving medical care.


Chief (Mrs.) Ayotunde Lawal, Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, underscored the importance of conducting thorough medical examinations to assess the condition of the destitutes. 

Shae said this measure aims to differentiate between individuals genuinely in need of assistance and know those that were miscreants or in disguise, to ensure that citizens move freely without fear of being attacked by vagrants.
