Olaniyan, who spoke at the 2026 PCRC week tagged “Oluomo26” and sendforth for former state chairman in Ogun State held in Abeokuta on Saturday.
He said the improved response of security agencies to criminal attacks under the Tinubu administration was evidence that the government was taking the fight against insecurity seriously.
“Take it or reject it, he’s fighting crime in practical terms,” the PCRC chairman declared, stressing that security agencies had demonstrated their ability to track down criminal elements and rescue victims whenever kidnappers struck.
He singled out the appointment of IGP Tunji Disu as one of the administration’s outstanding decisions in the security sector, describing the police chief as “the right peg in the right hole.”
“Disu is an administrator. When you are talking of crime fighter, he’s a crime fighter,” Olaniyan said, praising the IGP’s ability to combine administration, operational strategy and crisis management.
According to him, the successes recorded in recent rescue operations in Ogun, Oyo and Kwara states reflected the growing effectiveness of the security architecture.
He also commended the Chief of Army Staff, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies for their contributions to the fight against crime.
The PCRC National Chairman described IGP Disu as a proactive leader who does not abandon field commanders to deal with security challenges alone.
“Disu is the IGP, but he’s the mentor to all these CPs. It’s not an IGP that just tells them, ‘Go and find the solution by yourself’,” he said, explaining that the police leadership provides commanders with strategic direction, advice and operational support.
He also praised the deployment of Operation KOSAYE, saying the initiative had demonstrated the determination of security agencies to confront criminal elements.
He warned criminals that the government is prepared to deploy the full weight of the state against anyone threatening the lives and property of Nigerians.
He noted that the PCRC had been promoting community policing for about 43 years and had built a significant network of members across the country.
Olaniyan disclosed that the PCRC would support the Safe School Initiative by providing 10,000 members across the country ahead of the resumption of schools in September.
He said the initiative would further strengthen collaboration between communities and security agencies in protecting schools and students.
He said the Ogun State Command remained committed to a zero-tolerance policy towards criminal activities.
“From the Area Command women/youth parade today, we could see that you share the Command’s vision of zero tolerance—that is, no room or no way for crime in Ogun State,” he said.
He urged PCRC members to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious activities to the police.
“Anywhere, as PCRC members, you see crime being committed, say something. Don’t be passive. Always be active, as you used to do, to support the police,” he added.
Ojajuni also urged the PCRC to maintain unity, strengthen cooperation with the police and ensure that criminal elements do not infiltrate the organisation or use its platform to perpetrate crime.
He called for proper screening of members and urged the committee to provide security agencies with credible and timely information.
He specifically praised CP Bode Ojajuni, describing him as a strong advocate of community policing and commending the Command’s efforts in securing kidnapped victims.
Lawal urged security agencies to build on the gains recorded through Operation KOSAYE, which he said had received support from the Ogun and Lagos State Governments.
“It’s we the community, we have to come to their aid by see something and say something,” he said.
He stressed that community policing could only succeed when residents actively cooperate with security agencies.
“Community policing cannot thrive without engagement of the community supporting the Nigerian Police Force, particularly other security agencies,” Lawal said.
He also called for an end to hate speech and hostility against security personnel, urging residents to work with the police, vigilante groups and other recognised security structures.
“Whatever you do has to do with commitment. Once you are committed to whatever cause you have chosen in life, then success will surely follow it,” Popoola said.
He urged security personnel to discharge their responsibilities with dignity and dedication, stressing that committed leadership would always make an impact regardless of the challenges faced.
“Whatever you find yourself as a leader, make sure that you leave a legacy. Make sure that at the time you are leaving, you are celebrated. Make sure that you put in all your best,” he said.
Popoola, who expressed gratitude for the recognition he received at the event, described the occasion as one of the happiest moments of his life.
“I never thought that a day like this will come, that something like this will be organized for me, and I’m so, so happy because this is actually one of the happiest days in my life,” he said.
