Chief Fadairo made the announcement on Wednesday during a world press conference held at his private residence in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Abeokuta, where he described the decision as a personal one reached after careful reflection.
Addressing journalists, the elder statesman dismissed speculations that his withdrawal from politics was influenced by external forces, insisting that it was a voluntary decision taken in the best interest of his personal convictions.
“This decision is purely personal and devoid of any hidden motives or external pressures. It is a well-considered choice made after deep reflection,” Fadairo said.
He explained that after years of active participation in Nigeria’s political process, he believes he has made meaningful contributions and that the time has come to hand over the baton to others.
“Having actively participated in the political landscape of our great nation at both the state and national levels for several decades, I am convinced that I have made my contributions and fulfilled my obligations. I believe the time has come for me to step aside and take a well-deserved rest, in line with the timeless saying that there is a season for everything” he stated.
Chief Fadairo expressed appreciation to his family, political associates, supporters, well-wishers and members of the media for their unwavering support throughout his political journey.
He also declared that with immediate effect, he would no longer belong to or identify with any political party, stressing that he would remain neutral and serve as a father figure to all, irrespective of political affiliation.
“I hereby declare that, effective immediately, I shall no longer be affiliated with or aligned to any political party. I will henceforth assume the role of a father to all, maintaining neutrality and offering goodwill without partisan inclination”.
The former political stalwart noted that his retirement from active politics would afford him more time to focus on community service and his traditional responsibilities as the Asiwaju of Ifoland and Fiwagbayi of Egbaland.
Reaffirming his position, Chief Fadairo said his decision marks the end of his involvement in partisan politics, while wishing all his political associates success in their future endeavours.
“remain nonpartisan and will no longer be actively involved in politics. I extend my best wishes to all my political associates and wish them well in their various endeavours” he said.
