The event, held on Saturday , featured Islamic scholars who delivered sermons and lectures centered on piety, unity, and national development.
The Tafsir was officiated by Imam Akorede Badru of Igan Itun Nla Mosque, who congratulated Muslims worldwide for witnessing another Ramadan.
He described the holy month as a sacred period for seeking Allah’s forgiveness and earning increased rewards through supplication, prayer, fasting, and charity.
Imam Badru reminded the congregation that Ramadan, being one of the five pillars of Islam, is a time for deep reflection, communal service, and renewed devotion.
He urged the faithful to use the opportunity of the holy month to pray for Nigeria, asking God to grant the nation lasting peace and progress.
The cleric also commended Yomi Ogunsanu for sustaining his family’s legacy of service to Islam and the community following the demise of his father, Alhaji S.O. Ogunsanu, a respected Islamic and community leader in Ago-Iwoye who passed away twenty years ago.
He noted that the late Alhaji Ogunsanu made significant contributions to the growth of Islam in the town, particularly through developmental projects at Igan Itun Nla Mosque.
He encouraged Yomi and his siblings to continue walking in their father’s footsteps.
In a lecture titled “Unity: The Cornerstone of Islam as a Religion – Why Disunity Among Muslims?” Mufassir Ismail Bello emphasized the importance of unity among Muslims, stressing that Islam is fundamentally a religion of peace.
He decried factionalisation within the Muslim community, noting that Islamic practices, such as the five daily prayers and their prescribed rakats, are universally observed, demonstrating the oneness of the faith.
Mufassir Bello attributed misunderstandings among some Islamic leaders and adherents to misinformation and misinterpretation of the Holy Quran.
He therefore urged Islamic leaders to continually seek knowledge to guide their followers appropriately. He also encouraged Muslims to remain conscious of their cultural values while practicing Islam.
The event featured the recitation of several verses of the Holy Quran, followed by interpretations to enlighten attendees. Special prayers were offered to conclude the Tafsir, marking another successful edition of the annual spiritual gathering in Ago-Iwoye.
