Gateway Poly Saapade Celebrates First Anniversary of Rector’s Leadership

Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade (Gaposa), has celebrated the first anniversary of its Rector, Dr. Sanni Kehinde Oseni.

The event, organized by staff and students, took place at the polytechnic’s premises and drew an impressive turnout of dignitaries, staff, students, and stakeholders, all eager to honor Dr. Oseni’s contributions.

In the course of the epoch making event, the Deputy Rector, Mr. Taiwo Ogunyinka, delivered a speech titled “Why We Are Here,” praising the Rector’s dedication to improving the institution’s academic and infrastructural standards.

He mentioned the notable accomplishments achieved within the past year, including new development projects, initiatives, and the fostering of a positive and inclusive working environment.

The guest speaker, Asiwaju Kunle Kalejaiye, commended Dr. Oseni’s transformational leadership, which significantly elevated Gaposa’s profile. Asiwaju Kalejaiye pointed to positive comments and feedback observed online as evidence of the Rector’s success.

He urged Dr. Oseni to continue his open-door policy, which has fostered a welcoming and inclusive environment within the institution, while also advising him to avoid favoritism and ensure fairness for all staff and students.Asiwaju Kalejaiye also acknowledged the Rector’s ability to create an atmosphere of trust and respect, noting the strong rapport he has built with both staff and students.

The gathering, he said, was a clear testament to the Rector’s positive influence and impact on the Gaposa community.

Among Dr. Oseni’s notable achievements over the past year are:

Restoration of stability and hierarchy within the polytechnic
Re-accreditation of 43 programs, with additional streams added
Timely payment of salaries and arrears, as well as prompt staff promotions
Mending the polytechnic’s image with JAMB and securing the release of outstanding NEEDS assessment funds
Automation of the polytechnic library and resolution of longstanding promotion and appointment issues
Purchase of a 1650kva generator for stable power supply, and a 1kva generator for the Aiyepe campus
Acquisition of a truck for Gaposa ventures and commencement of commercial operations of Gaposa Bakery
Signing of an MOU for internet services for staff and students
Introduction of agricultural courses to the polytechnic’s curriculum
Promotion of a research culture through international conferences held by all schools within the polytechnic
Upgrade of the security architecture through the recruitment of more security personnel and collaboration with neighboring towns to boost security
In his response, Dr. Oseni expressed deep gratitude to the entire Gaposa community for the surprise celebration and the unwavering support he has received during his tenure.
He attributed the progress made so far to the collective efforts of staff, students, and stakeholders, and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in achieving the institution’s goals.
Looking ahead, Dr. Oseni shared his vision for the next 365 days, which includes the payment of examination bonuses, the introduction of a student work-study program, the provision of free internet access and health insurance for both staff and students, as well as the establishment of an annual staff award to recognize outstanding contributions.
The celebration ended with a sense of renewed commitment to the polytechnic’s growth and development under the leadership of Dr. Oseni, as the Gaposa community looks forward to another successful year.
