The Chairman of Ogun Youth Assembly Amb. Habeeb Whyte has called on Nigerian youths to embrace dialogue as a means of addressing their grievances, rather than resorting to protest.
Whyte disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Thursday in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital.
He acknowledged the varied responses to the assembly's recent press conference, including praise, frustration, and even personal threats.
He emphasized the importance of constructive engagement between youths and government, citing the democratic principle of government existing to serve the people.
Whyte highlighted the benefits of dialogue, including building trust and understanding, identifying and addressing root causes of challenges, and collaborating on solutions that benefit all.
He announced that the Ogun State government, led by Governor Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun, has been requested to hold an Executive Dialogue session with the youth assembly, which is being considered.
The chairman urged Ogun State youths to join the assembly in this call to action, supporting the government while holding them accountable through peaceful means.
He expressed optimism that this approach can lead to greatness for the state, noting that it would be a pioneering achievement in Ogun State's modern democracy.
According to him " Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun CON, through our leadership, had requested for an Executive Dialogue session, and same is being looked into.
"We can only hope that this would happen sooner or later. We must keep working hard at all quarters to make this happen. It would be the first of its kind since the creation of this State - especially in this modern democracy in Ogun State.
"I urge Ogun State youths to join us at the Ogun Youth Assembly on this call to action. Let us support our government and hold them accountable through peaceful means. Together, we can achieve greatness."
