The grand finale of the Oba Saka Matemilola Under 15 Football Competition was held over the weekend, with Golden Stars defeating Ultimate Bombers 3-0 in the final match.
The tournament, which aimed to identify and develop young football talents, featured 14 teams from the Abeokuta Metropolis.
In his remarks, the Olowu of Owu kingdom HRM Oba Saka Matemilola emphasized the importance of catching young talents early and supporting them to develop their skills.
He noted that the tournament was designed to creatively engage youths and distract them from criminal activities.
The Monarch call for more support and sponsorship to make it bigger and better next year.
"Government hands are full, and there are a lot of things on their plate , in terms of development sport.
Individuals ,organizations, non governmental organization needs to get involved in it, it's important for us to focus on the youth because they are our future , the government cannot not do it alone.
"I'm happy that the ministry of sport have continued to partner with us on this programme to ensure that stars among them will be supported in material way we request them to do.
"The tournament is not restricted, this boys all cover Abeokuta Metropolis, the key thing is that the boys should form themselves into a club and they can be part of he competition next year.
"We also want to invite others to get involved in this kind of thing, the more we come together to do this kind of thing we can do it bigger .
"We also want ideas, support in terms of sponsorship, connection so that we can make this boys see this as something they can look forward to ."
The coordinator of the tournament, Chief Oluseyi Adediran, expressed excitement about the talent discovered during the competition and appreciated the support of Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun.
He announced plans to expand the tournament within Ogun Central next year to include other sports like handball and table tennis.
He added that the tournament was open to teams from the entire Egba region, with participants from Obantoko, Ake, Ibara, Oke Mosan, and Lafenwa .
"We started with about 30 teams and 14 was screened out and the 14 teams participated throughout.
"This tournament is very exciting , it's a talent discovery, we don't know we have talent like this , i must tell you we must appreciate our Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, we have a lot of scouter around us here.
" So many people have showned interest for the next competition, we should be having different competition next year , may be in hand ball, table tennis, and so many other sport.
"The mode of selection is open ended, not within Owu people but within entire Egbas, we have teams from Obantoko, Ake , Ibara, oke mosan, lafenwa and so on."
Awards were presented to Sanyaolu Mujeeb of Golden Stars as the best player of the tournament and Joe Ahebi of Dominion Star Football Team as the best coach.
